Living by the dram means:
“live your life and enjoy and appreciate the “dram” while consuming it. ”
(a dram is 3 cl of whisky)
I am 36 years old and live in the Netherlands.
I first started drinking whisky when I was 18 years old.
I started with Jack Daniels and Johnnie Walker.
When I got older I’ve started appreciate the taste of whisky more and wanted to know more about this magical drink and experience different kinds of whiskies. This got me started into the wonderful world of whisky.
The blends where the second experience for me; Ballentine’s, Chivas regal, Johnny Walker, Famous grouse, etc.
I could by then determine the different flavors in these blends and wanted to dive into the world of Single Malt Whiskies.
I’ve read a lot of articles and books about whisky. Have seen a shitload of whisky video’s but wanted to learn more.
I’ve started to collect a ton of Single Malt Whiskies and drank everything i could get my hands on, so i could grew and educate my palate. By then my collection grew and grew. At this point im my own liquor store.
I started to sell some bottles so I could buy more expensive bottles for my whisky collection.
Slowly I traded whiskies with everyone around the world. This allowed me to expand my collection and knowledge of whiskies. It also let me see what people around the world drank and collected.
I attend every whisky festivals I could go to and went on whisky holidays in Scotland to experience the magic at first hand.
This gave me a opportunity to meet all kind and generous people in the industry. They let me see things other people normally don’t see and let me experience things that normally where behind closed doors.
By then my social media accounts grew strong with followers and people in the industry and whisky community. This allowed me to connect with brand ambassadors, distillery managers, whisky enthusiast and experts in the industry. I got lucky and got a lot of great collaborations and opportunities by talking and meeting these great and kind people. This is something i am truly grateful for.
Don’t forget that i am a proud member of the whisky community. The whisky community is one of the great community that are there for each other and support each other in anyway possible.
My love for whisky grew and grew. My journey and love for whisky will never stop.
I’ve educated myself even more by studying the WSET level 1 ,2 and 3.
This allowed me to learn more about the proces of whisky, wine, champagne, sherry, port. But also how to professionally nose, taste and grade whisky and wine. I always encourage myself to remember the different kind of taste flavors in whisky and wine.
I have felt the need to make my voice heard, so i designed a logo so that my brand will be recognized in the community and the world of whisky.
Hopefully I can transfer my love, passion and knowledge for whisky by writing about the water of life “uisge beatha” but also will be entertaining for you as reader.
