Allt-A-Bhainne Distillery
Allt-A-Bhainne is gaelic and means ,milk spring‘.
The distillery Allt-á-Bhainne is located about eight kilometer away from Dufftown at the northern foothills of the Ben Rinnes. It has been build to produce malt whisky for the blended whisky of Chivas Brothers, as there are Chivas Regal, Passport and 100 Pipes.
Originally designed to produce a light, estery malt for blending requirements, in recent years it has also occasionally produced a heavily-peated variant. Allt-a-Bhainne is only very occasionally seen as a single malt bottling.
Allt-á-Bhainne is a very modern distillery. There are pagoda roofs but they have no function at all. The complete distilling process can be controlled by just one person. There are just nine employees for the whole distillery. There are no warehouses at the distillery. The new make will be reduced with water and then transported with road tankers to Keith. In Keith there are old hangers which are used as warehouses now.

History
Its modernist design singles Allt-a-Bhainne out as an oddity within Speyside, a region whose distilleries often seem to have sprouted from the bedrock. It was built by Seagram in 1975 during a period of growing optimism in the Scotch industry when the Canadian firm (which at the time owned Chivas Regal) was increasing its production capacity. It has had a chequered history with periods of being placed into mothballs (the most recent being between 2003 and 2005). With global demand rising, owner Chivas Brothers has it in full production once more.
